ARTIST STATEMENT
Amy Mintonye is a mixed media artist who combines found imagery with painterly illustration. Amy composes her realistic yet surreal compositions from collage clippings, found objects and marks from her own hand. Simultaneously cheeky and sincere, Amy’s work seeks to provoke a better understanding of human condition in the audience. Investigating age-old power dynamics between victim and aggressor, man and nature, rich and poor, and men and women, Amy plays with scale, connotation, irony and juxtaposition to dramatize the relationships between those parties. Her found imagery is harvested from her vast collection of vintage print matter, helping her images and themes feel timeless and archetypal.
